An open lecture "Contemporary Art of China" was held at Astrakhan V.N. Tatishchev State University. In a video conference call, Chen Xiangyu, a lecturer at Hainan University, a specialist in cultural studies and art, told students about key events in Chinese history from the tenth century to the present day, and emphasized that Chinese philosophy and state ideology have significantly influenced the formation of art and artistic tastes over the centuries.
The audience was particularly interested in the comparative parallels drawn by the lecturer between Chinese masters and the work of outstanding artists such as Michelangelo Caravaggio, Salvador Dali, Ivan Shishkin and Vasily Surikov.
Nikita Bugrov, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Astrakhan University, excelled in the role of translator.
ASU is actively developing scientific and educational ties with universities in China on the basis of cooperation agreements. The Meridian Center for Oriental and Western Languages and Cultures operates on the basis of the Faculty of Foreign Languages. Chinese language courses are open here, exhibitions, workshops and other educational events are held.
"Together with Hainan University and Chengdu Institute of Sichuan University of Foreign Languages, our university implements academic mobility programs for faculty and students. Over the past five years, more than 70 Chinese students have studied at Astrakhan State University," said Ekaterina Shatokhina, Head of the Department for International Affairs at ASU – In turn, 40 students from Astrakhan interned at Chinese partner universities. Five of them became scholarship holders of the Chinese Government Scholarship Program in 2024-2025.
Scientists from leading universities in China publish their research in the journals of ASU. Representatives of Sichuan University prepared a number of articles jointly with Astrakhan colleagues and published them in journals from the list of the Higher Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
