In 2024 the Caspian Agrarian Federal Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, located in the village of Saline Zaymishche in the Chernoyarsk district of the Astrakhan Region, signed a cooperation agreement with the Belarusian Republican scientific and production unitary enterprise Institute of Fruit Growing.
As part of the agreements reached last August, employees of the Department of fruit and berry crops of the Caspian Agrarian Federal Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences visited the Republic of Belarus, where they got acquainted with the experience of Belarusian colleagues in the field of horticulture.
In the gardens of the Republican Scientific and Production Unitary Enterprise "Institute of Fruit Growing", which are located in the agricultural town of Samokhvalovichi near Minsk, they selected 16 new promising apple varieties of different maturation periods on the recommendation of colleagues.
"This spring, over 100 seedlings of Belarusian varieties will be planted at our experimental research and production site. For a long time, we will comprehensively study how they grow and develop in the specific conditions of our region," said Tatiana Menshutina, Head of the Department of Fruit and Berry Crops at the Caspian Agrarian Federal Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. "Today, our Center has a collection of fruit crops, consisting of 97 varieties of apple trees, more than 40 grape varieties and about 40 varieties of stone fruit crops. Our task is to attract new varieties to replenish it: to study them and further recommend them for production to our gardeners, as well as to recommend new products for inclusion in the regional state register of breeding achievements in the Astrakhan Region."
