On the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, a solemn ceremony of laying flowers at the Eternal Flame of Glory memorial was held at Bratskiy Sad Park in Astrakhan.

The event featured representatives of the consular offices of the Caspian littoral states located in Astrakhan: the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Consulate of Turkmenistan, as well as Acting Head of the Territorial Representative Body of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Astrakhan Oleg Kolomin, Minister of Foreign Relations of the Astrakhan Region Vladimir Golovkov and employees of these institutions.

The participants of the ceremony commemorated the fallen during the Great Patriotic War by observing a moment of silence.

"According to a good tradition, on the eve of a big holiday – Victory Day – together with our partners, representatives of consular institutions operating in the Astrakhan Region lay flowers at the Eternal Flame of Glory memorial, paying tribute to the memory of soldiers who died for their homeland during the Great Patriotic War," said Minister of External Relations of Astrakhan Region Vladimir Golovkov. "During 1941–1945 on the battlefields no one divided themselves into Russians, Kazakhs, Turkmen, and Azerbaijanis – they were united by a single Soviet nation defending their freedom and independence."

The Minister emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory and passing it on to future generations. He stressed that it is crucial to prevent the distortion of historical facts in any way.
