Today, within the framework of the visit of Astrakhan region Governor Igor Babushkin to the Republic of Azerbaijan, he met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov, where the main directions of bilateral cooperation were discussed.
Igor Babushkin noted that Astrakhan region and Azerbaijan have long-term cooperation in various fields.
One of the priorities is the development of mutual trade, including using the infrastructure of the International North–South Transport Corridor.
During the conversation, the head of the region stressed the importance of expanding ties in the agricultural sector, as Astrakhan agricultural producers have accumulated a wealth of experience and are expanding the geography of supplies to Russia and abroad. In order to develop business contacts, an agreement was reached to hold a presentation of the agro-industrial complex of the Astrakhan region at the Astrakhan Business Center in Baku with the invitation of interested structures of Azerbaijan to this event.
According to Igor Babushkin, cooperation in the shipbuilding sector is promising. Based on industrial cooperation, it is possible to implement joint projects for the construction of various types of vessels: dry cargo ships, chemical carriers, ferries, tankers and others.
The issue of resuming direct flights between Astrakhan and Baku received support from the Azerbaijani side. Igor Babushkin noted that there has always been high demand for this flight with almost one hundred percent occupancy.
The interlocutors further discussed cooperation in the field of culture, noting that there are great opportunities for expanding creative contacts. The governor proposed to hold joint opera galas, as well as open-air opera performances at the site in front of the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, noting that the creative teams of the Astrakhan region and Azerbaijan have experience in holding such events. For his part, the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan supported this idea.
Igor Babushkin informed Ali Asadov about his trip to Gubadli district yesterday to get acquainted with the construction of a preschool in the village of Makhruzlu. The building is scheduled to be commissioned simultaneously with other facilities under construction next spring.
During the visit, the head of the region laid flowers in Baku on the Alley of Honor, at the memorial complex "Mass Grave", as well as at the monument to Richard Sorge. The outstanding Soviet intelligence officer is a native of Baku. This year marks the 130th anniversary of his birth.
