Astrakhan Tatishchev State University organized and hosted an international roundtable titled "Russia and Belarus: New geopolitical challenges and national security issues", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.
Teachers and students from a number of universities in Belarus attended the online discussion. Among them were representatives of Gomel State University named after Francysk Skaryna, Baranavichy State University, Mogilev State University named A.A. Kuleshov, Belarusian State Food and Chemical Technology University and Brest State A.S. Pushkin University.
The participants of the roundtable discussed a wide range of issues related to the events of the Great Patriotic War. They noted the importance of preserving historical memory and taking care of historical accuracy in their reports. Special attention was given to the formation of stable civic values and a critical approach to attempts to rewrite history.
In a separate section, modern geopolitical processes and problems of ensuring national security were considered both in the international and regional context.
The discussion sparked great interest among the participants. Representatives from Astrakhan Tatishchev State University and universities of Belarus came to the conclusion that it is necessary to further develop cooperation and work together to preserve the memory of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945, which was a key event of the 20th century.
