Astrakhan cadets will visit China on the training sailing vessel Pallada.
15 cadets from the Volga-Caspian Marine Fisheries College will travel to Vladivostok at the end of March to undergo sea training on the sailing vessel Pallada.
Along with representatives from 6 Russian educational institutions, the Astrakhan students will undergo 10 days of shore training before heading out to sea. The training sailing vessel Pallada, belonging to the Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University, will set sail on April 1.
"During their training, the cadets will experience firsthand all the rigors of working at sea," noted Alexander Khromov, Director of the Volga-Caspian Marine Fisheries College. "As part of the crew, they will stand watch, learn how to operate sails, acquire useful navigation and seamanship skills, and reinforce maritime safety rules. The young sailors will also work in the engine room, servicing the vessel's machinery and engineering systems. They will learn how to troubleshoot and replace parts of ship components."
The 40-day voyage includes a port call at Dalian, People's Republic of China. The visit is planned with the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in China, the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Dalian, and the Federal Agency for Fisheries.
Built in 1989, the frigate Pallada has become a true legend over its 36 years of impeccable service. The vessel has circumnavigated the globe 3 times and completed 9 transoceanic voyages, visiting the Indian, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans. Over the years, more than 15,000 cadets from various maritime educational institutions have completed internships on board, gaining invaluable ocean voyage experience.
The cadets will visit Dalian Ocean University and Dalian Neusoft University of Information Technology. Later, during the voyage, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Russian War Memorial Cemetery in Port Arthur.
The ship will return to its home port of Vladivostok on approximately May 16.
Three voyages of the Pallada are planned for 2026, calling at ports in China and North Korea, and cadets from the Volga-Caspian Marine Fisheries College will participate in each of them.
